Help with the illuminated keyboard on a mac?

brand new macbook pro, running Mac OS-X 10 and when i got it this morning i could press f5 and f6 to adjust the illuminated keyboard to make it brighter/dimmer and i must have changed something and now the keys do nothing to the brightness and i cant fix it in system prefrences. help?
