What is the latest method of waste disposal without harming the environment?

Waste disposal has been a problem in many Indian cities. Burying them pollutes the ground water, burning them causes atmospheric pollution. How best can they be disposed off. I am not talking about the plastic or metalic waste, just organic waste.
